Copycat
There is so much I hate about the art world, the elitism and pretension. Art should be for everyone., by everyone. I grew up in a family of artists, but I was too intimidated to pursue it. It wasn’t until my mid twenties when I really needed art to deal with some serious shit that I started using creativity as a coping tool. I started copying art, to learn, but also for my brain. Copying can be so instructive. Plus the idea of originality is kind of obsolete, we live in such a content glut.
These first two are copies of Michelangelo’s drawings.
So delicate, can you imagine finding these in a sketchbook?
Then I tried some Degas bathers. I really don’t like the style of either. The one on the left has a garish over saturation that reminds me of velvet paintings.
This Matisse copy, I really love.
Picasso makes me melt.
You can see how I just added more paper because I had no idea how to scale. By doing that it unbounded the page,I just kept adding more.
